The European Association of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM)
was founded in Berlin
in 1968.
Objectives
The purpose of the Association is to bring together groups and individuals
in a European organisation
in order to promote the science of perinatal
medicine for the benefit of a high level of physical and mental health
for women, mothers and their children in Europe, in particular by:

Promoting and disseminating the study, research and knowledgeon
all aspects of perinatal medicine, in order to attain, by all appropriate
means, a higher level of physical
and mental health for women, mothers
and their children
by improving the quality and provision of perinatal
care in
Europe;

Contributing to the improvement of teaching standards in the profession;
- Proposing guidelines and standardising criteria for auditing, evaluation
and clinical care in perinatal medicine;
- Fostering collaboration between the various disciplines interested
in perinatal care as well as friendship between individuals from
different European Countries
Activities
In order to obtain its goals, its general aims, EAPM:
- Organises a European congress every two years in different countries,
if circumstances permit.
- Organises national and international educational courses on
subjects of research and practice in perinatal medicine;
- Creates and supports study groups on topics of particular interest;
- Promotes and facilitates the dissemination of knowledge and
information especially by scientific publications, the official journal
of Association, and by a newsletter;

Appoints working parties to co-ordinate multi centre clinical
trails;
- Encourages international visits between established scientific
research workers and arranging exchange posts for young specialists in
training;
- Promotes internationally agreed definitions, terminologies
and methodologies;
- Represents the interests of its membership in World Health
Organization (WHO), International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics
(FIGO), International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), International
Pediatric Association (IPA), Mother and Child International (MCI), European
Board and College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (EBCOG), European
Society of Pediatrics Research (ESPR) and other international organisations
whose aims are consistent with the purposes of the Association.
- Acts as the non-profit making successor of the European organization “European
Association of Perinatal Medicine” which was founded in 1968.
Affiliation and relationships with other
professional bodies
- The European Association of Perinatal Medicine is affiliated
with the National Perinatal Societies and Associations of those countries
represented in the General Assembly.
- The Association has a representative body at the European Board
and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG). In connection with
this latter the EAPM is carrying out training plans concerning sub speciality,
guidelines and scientific activities.
- The Association represents the interest of its membership in
the WHO, WAPM, FIGO, ESPR, International Confederation of Midwives, International
Pediatric Association, Mother and Child International, ESHRE, ESGO
and other international organizations whose aims are consistent with
the aims of the Association.
- The Association cooperates with many national societies of
perinatal medicine.
